Disciplinary charges for fixing tickets in a growing corruption scandal may be confronted with a whopping 400 cops, The New York Post has learned.
Two NYPD lawyers were recently of the Department legal office Office transferred to his lawyer, who is acting departmental trials against officers, and told to expect hundreds of cases, according to a source in the unit.
"This is huge," said the source. "That's a lot of cops all in one shot. I've never heard of such thing, that many police officers brought in one period. "
"It was a systemic thing," said another source familiar with the probe.
The Department brings cops internally in all 12 Bronx area--and possibly other municipalities--for allegedly helping friends and family by "losing" paperwork and missing Court dates. In turn, parking tickets, moving violations and quality-of-life subpoenas in court would be dismissed or made to disappear before you ever in the neighborhood of a judge.
Officers found guilty in Department tests may be fired, benefits, losses or be reprimanded or warned.
Perhaps those who tampered with documents facing criminal prosecution of obstruction or submission of a false instrument, while cops who took money could be hit with crimes such as bribery.
The NYPD lawyers plan to go after the Union delegate and fixers most aggressive, some of whom some could face criminal prosecution, the source said. Officers who simply requested that favors the fixers would probably lighter punishment.
A Bronx grand jury is individually weighs criminal charges against about 40 cops accused of taking bribes to make violations of the way to go.
