CROATAN NATIONAL FOREST, N.C.--were five people, including two infants and another child, killed Sunday when a sport utility vehicle overturned on a road national forest near the coast of North Carolina and sank in a channel, officials said.

The crash happened between 5: 30 pm and 6 pm in the Croatan National Forest North of Camp Lejeune. Tire marks on the dirt road indicate that speed was probably a factor and that the fatal storms that killed at least 21 in the State does not play a role, said Highway Patrol Trooper r.a. Woods.

Officials had not identified the victims immediately and Woods didn't like were all related. He said that the infants--a boy and a girl--were found still strapped in their child seats when the SUV was pulled from the water. It had its upside down, almost completely submerged and drowning seemed to be the cause of death, he said.

In addition to the infants, were an adolescent boy and a man and a woman found in the SUV, said Woods. The woman, who instead of the driver, was still wearing a safety belt; the man was not.

It was possible that the man died trying to get women and children from the SUV after the crash said Woods.
